International Challenge is one of the Tokio-2020 Summer Olympic Games Qualifying tournaments. Azerbaijan gained the right to host one of the “International Challenge” tournaments. “Azerbaijan International 2019” has been registered by International Badminton Federation in its calendar of 2019. 

This tournament will be the first ever grand badminton competition to be held in  Azerbaijan.

Events: Men’s Singles, Women's Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women's Doubles, Mixed Doubles. The number of players/pairs to be accepted for the main single events is 32, for the main double events 24.

It is required that every event in a particular BEC Elite Circuit tournament has at least 8 competitors (i.e. actual competitors, not merely entries). If the required number of competitors is not met, this particular event shall not count towards any ranking, i.e. BEC Elite Circuit Ranking and BWF World Ranking.

In accordance with regulation 10.4 in Appendix 6 to BWF’s General Competition Regulations, an event must contain at least one entry from a Member Association other than the hosting Association. If an event does not contain at least one entry from a Member Association other than the hosting Association, this particular event shall not count towards any ranking.

BADMINTON EUROPE is not liable for any costs incurred by third persons (players, coaches, umpires, team managers etc.) because of an event not having enough competitors to count for the rankings.

Participation is open to players of any national association recognized by the BWF.

Note:  The member Association that enters a player into Elite Circuit tournament is responsible for paying the entry fees for that player. For all players withdrawing in the time between the entry and the beginning of the Tournament, the Organizers can invoice the entry fee to the relevant Member Association. 

The entry fees become due if a player is entered and has not been withdrawn when the entry deadline passes.

WITHDRAWALS

Any withdrawal after the May 20, 2019, for any reason whatsoever, renders the Member Association concerned liable to an amount of 150 USD for the inconvenience caused by the withdrawal (as defined in the BWF General Competition Regulations)

 

Any player not showing up at the tournament, without having been withdrawn in advance, renders the Member Association concerned liable to an additional amount of US$ 500,00 for the inconvenience caused by the “no show” (as defined in BWF General Competition Regulations).

PAYMENTS

Accomodation payments must be paid directly to the official hotels.

Entry fee must be paid during the process of accreditation to organisers.

INSURANCE

The organizers will not be responsible for any injury sustained, at any time, by any player or official arising from his participation in this Championship. Any costs incurred for medical treatment and/or hospitalization shall be borne by the Member Association of the player/official concerned. All players and officials are recommended to review their insurance cover and ensure that it meets your current requirements.

 

Member Association and/or Organiser may be liable for claims originating from the damages incurred by the participants and/or any other persons, arising from or in connection to the particular BEC Elite Circuit tournament, according to local Law. BADMINTON EUROPE is not liable for any such claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any nature whatsoever, including but not limited to injury or loss to person or property, arising out of or in any way related, directly or indirectly, to the particular BEC Elite Circuit tournament. It is recommended that Member Associations and/or Organisers purchase a proper Insurance Policy that would cover their potential legal liability.

 

MEDICAL SERVICES

On courts Doctors and Physiotherapist will be available during the tournament and further information will provided at the team managers meeting.

FURTHER PROVISION

Players shall not plan their departure less than two (2) hours after their last match is planned to conclude. If a player is unable to compete due to early departure, he/she will be penalised by removal of Elite Circuit ranking points and shall not be awarded prizes or prize money. BADMINTON EUROPE shall propose to BWF that the gained BWF ranking points are also removed.

 

The organising Member Association can cancel a tournament in case of force majeure. Such cancellation must be announced at least 15 days before the start of the tournament. If a cancellation is announced less than 15 days before the start of the tournament, then the Member Association organising the tournament is liable for any expenses incurred by third persons (players, coaches, umpires, team managers etc.). BADMINTON EUROPE is not liable for any costs incurred by third persons because of a cancellation of a tournament.

 

MEDIA INFORMATION AND OBILIGATIONS

It is essential that we do all we can to secure maximum publicity for our sport, and It is a condition of entry into BWF Sanctioned Tournaments that each player, if requested by the BWF, the Media Manager or other Tournament officials, is required to undertake a range of media activities. Please refer to BWF Player Commitment Regulations (BWF Statutes 5.3.6) for further details.

It is expected that Member Associations will help facilitate, but not be limited to, Autograph Signings and Player Appearances for fans attending the Championships.

The Championships will work closely with Member Associations, in accordance with BWF Regulations, in order to achieve this. Failure to comply may result in a penalty being applied.

CLOTHING

Color, design, lettering and advertising on clothing shall be regulated by BWF General Competition Regulations 20 to 24.

 It is mandatory - that partners in doubles wear the same color of the T-shirt and shorts/skirts at all time during play in both the qualification and the main draw. Failing to do so shall result in an administrative fine of 100 EUR.

BETTING

 

There will be betting on offer from this event. Betting is however not allowed to be made by players or officials connected to the event either in person or through a third party. Participants may therefore not make bets on the Event or procure through third parties the making of bets with a betting agency. Participants who, in violation of this prohibition, nevertheless make or procure through third parties the making of bets with betting agencies shall be immediately disqualified from participation in the Event and are liable for legal prosecution.

Similarly manipulation of games will be met with disqualification and possible legal prosecution. Any violation mentioned above is also a breach of Player's Code of Conduct and Code of Conduct for Coaches & Officials and will be sanctioned by BWF.
